FUNDING
Some women find that paying for their entire abortion fee is a hardship. There are some limited sources of funding to help women in need. However, NO fund will pay for the entire abortion fee - all funding agencies expect that patients come up with a portion of their fee on their own.
Women can sometimes turn to family & friends for financial assistance - $25 from 4 friends easily adds up to $100!
If you find that you need additional assistance - there are some funds that you can call for help.
Please expect to spend at least an hour on each of these funding phone calls - you will be competing with other women to get assistance.
WOMEN IN NORTH DAKOTA & SOUTH DAKOTA:
If you are a woman living in North or South Dakota, there is limited financial assistance available that is based on your income, family size & need. Please ask about this funding when you make your appointment at our clinic. If you wish to attempt to access the funding on your own - see below.
You can call the National Abortion Federation Hotline @ 1-800-772-9100 for this funding. Expect to get frequent busy tones, you will have to dial over & over to get through to a case manager. If you get through, you will need to answer some basic questions about your household size and monthly income. If you do qualify, you will be given a grant (which means the funds do NOT need to be repaid).
WOMEN IN NORTH DAKOTA, SOUTH DAKOTA & MINNESOTA:
The Hersey Fund, run by Pro Choice Resources is a fund that helps women from ND, SD & MN ONLY pay for some of the abortion cost. It is a loan that you have to pay back. They can usually help out with between $100-$200 dollars. They ask that you pay them back $25 a month until the loan is paid off. They take phone calls from women needing help on Wednesdays ONLY from 5-7pm, central time. You should start calling right away at 5pm. If you get a busy signal, hang up and redial right away. If you get their answering machine, DO NOT leave a message, they will not call you back. You need to just keep dialing and redialing until you get through to a person. The number is 1-888-439-0124.
WIN FUND
Red River Women's Clinic has established a non-profit, tax-deductible charitable fund - the North Dakota Women in Need (WIN) Abortion Access Fund. The fund is an affiliate of the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF)
It was established in January of 1999 to serve indigent, financially eligible women of North and South Dakota and Minnesota. Medical Assistance in North Dakota and South Dakota will not cover abortion services for eligible women. The goal of the fund is to serve as a safety net for women who would not otherwise be able to obtain an abortion.
We believe these restrictions on abortion funding and abortion access are discriminatory because they especially burden women in need - the poor women, the young women, the women of color and the rural women of North and South Dakota and Minnesota.
99% of the donations to the ND WIN Abortion Access fund go directly to assist patients in the form of grants and loans. Tax deductible donations can be made to the fund by sending a check directly to:
