Abortion Appointments

What do I need to do before I call?

  • Please confirm your pregnancy with a home pregnancy test before calling for an appointment

  • Know the first day of your most recent menstrual period or when you think you got pregnant - appointments are scheduled based on these dates

  • The patient needing the abortion needs to call and make the appointment. We are happy to answer questions for any friend/family member

  • We see patients on Wednesday’s only

  • Plan to be on the phone with us for about 5-10 minutes to make the appointment

What do I need to do/bring to be ready for my appointment?

  • We are using universal masking protocols, so please plan to bring your own paper mask, that covers your mouth & nose while in our building. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided to you

  • Your fee needs to be paid in either cash, credit/debit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or a combination of cash and credit/debit card

  • You can expect to be at our clinic for a few hours. Most appointments are 3-4 hours

  • If you are 12 weeks or more your appointment may be longer - please plan for about a 4-6 hour appointment

  • Please dress comfortably and eat normally the day of your appointment - there are no food restrictions

  • You will meet with one-on-one with a Patient Advocate to have your questions answered and to discuss your abortion decision

  • You will then meet with the doctor and have either the procedural abortion or swallow the first pill for a medication abortion

  • If you have an in-clinic suction abortion, expect to be in our recovery room for about 15-30 minutes, depending on how you are feeling

Due to COVID-19 concerns, we are not allowing anyone but patients into our building. Your driver/support person may just drop you off near our Main Entrance in our private parking lot. Only patients will be admitted past the entryway. This is for everyone’s safety including you the patient, your support person, other patients and our staff. One of our support staff will be with you during the abortion.

Red River Women's Clinic offers mild sedation for our procedural abortion patients. This sedation is OPTIONAL. Many patients tolerate the abortion procedure well without these additional medications. There are NO extra costs to have mild sedation. If you choose this option - you need to have someone drive you home.

“This is the best experience I’ve had at a medical facility.”
